A multi-media artist and a native of New York City, I attended the High School of Art and Design before earning an Associate degree in Illustration from the Fashion Institute of Technology. I continued my studies in Photography and Radio-TV-Film at Temple University in Philadelphia receiving a Bachelor of Arts in 1990. My interests include Exhibition Design and Mural Painting, which inspired me to work on a variety of projects with adults and children that link the arts with culture and history while earning a Master of Arts from San Francisco State University’s School of Creative Arts in 1996.

In 1999, I was accepted as one of the featured artists in the Mid-Atlantic Arts Foundation’s Artists in Communities: America Creates for the New Millennium competition.  My work in arts education includes Professional Development Consultant to ArtsTeach in Charlotte, NC, Artists in Education Coordinator at Southern Exposure Gallery in San Francisco, CA and Associate Director of Arts Partnerships for Educational Excellence in Oakland, CA.

In 2005, I illustrated the bilingual children’s book "Chipi Chipis, Small Shells of the Sea – Caracolitos del Mar" by Irania Patterson and laid out interior pages for Banu Valladares' art and bilingual poetry book "Gypsy Child, Dancing Without Veils/Princesita Gitana, Bailando Sin Velos" both for CPCC Press. Previous published works include contributor to Klutz Press’ "The Bead Book", cover designer for Adam David Miller's "Neighborhood and Other Poems" as well as Assistant Curator and cover designer for "Legacy of the Panthers", an exhibition and catalog commissioned by the Dr. Huey P. Newton Foundation.

My husband Michael and I are raising a third generation of artists  – Nailah, Daveed and Maia, which I consider to be my finest work and a constant source of inspiration.

Thank you again for visiting,

Catherine
